Salinas Grandes – Jujuy Province – Argentina

Salinas Grandes, Jujuy, Argentine

On my way home from Salinas Grandes in Argentina, I thought I’d made the right call leaving before sunset. The light on the salt flats is usually better while the sun is higher, I told myself.

Just as I was putting my key in the door, a herd of llamas came through the village. I left my motorcycle where it was and followed them for a couple of blocks, curious to see where they were going.

They were simply heading to enjoy and give their farewell to the sunset ☀️.

I screwed my 100–400 mm lens, and knelt down to make a few frames. This was one I liked.

Sometimes the best photograph definitely comes after you think the session is over.

Salinas Grandes is a vast salt flat located in the northwestern region of Argentina, between the provinces of Salta and Jujuy. It is an otherworldly landscape characterized by endless white salt plains and crystalline formations. Visitors can explore the salt flats, take unique perspective photos, and learn about the traditional salt extraction methods. Salinas Grandes offers a surreal and mesmerizing experience, especially during sunrise or sunset when the salt plains shimmer in different shades.
